INDIANAPOLIS — The consensus is the Jets need a major upgrade at their skill positions to help Sam Darnold in Year 2 … unless you listen to new coach Adam Gase, that is.
Gase talked up some of his skill players this week at the NFL Scouting Combine. To listen to him, you never would have thought the Jets were 29th in total offense last year. He praised tight end Chris Herndon, running back Eli McGuire and wide receivers Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa.
He did not sound like a coach who just took over a team that went long stretches without scoring touchdowns and had a five-game midseason stretch during which they did not crack 20 points.
