Smith signs with Bills

The Jets have lost their first player to free agency - wide receiver Brad Smith has signed a 4 year, $15 million deal with the Buffalo Bills, a rival in the AFC East division.

Smith had all kinds of responsibilities with the Jets, including covering kickoffs, returning kickoffs (with 2 touchdowns last season), and running the wild cat offense (he had 299 rushing yards in 2010). In spite of his many talents, the Jets did not aggressively pursue Smith.

Smith's standout game last season came against the Bengals on Thanksgiving, in which he scored two touchdowns, one on a 53 yard run and another on an 89 yard kickoff return. Fans might remember the second run, as Smith lost a cleat as he sprinted for the end zone.

In five seasons with the Jets, Smith compiled nearly 3400 yards receiving, rushing, and returning kicks.
