While the cause for Smith's absence is unknown as of this writing, it's yet another strange turn in what has been a season full of them for the once highly-touted quarterback of the future.
Owner Woody Johnson expressed confidence in Smith after the team's victory over the Dolphins, saying "he'll make better decisions as he moves on." It's hard to say if Monday's missed meeting will have any impact on that assessment without all of the facts, but it's going to be an interesting transitional period nonetheless for everyone in the organization this offseason including Smith as the team searches for HC Rex Ryan and GM John Idzik's replacements.
