TAMPA, Fla. – Valtteri Filppula had one of his best seasons in the NHL while a member of the Lightning, one of four NHL franchises for which the Finnish center has played.
But the new Islander prefers the different experiences each organization brings.
“Yeah, I do,” Filppula said Thursday as the Islanders faced the Lightning at Amalie Arena. “You get to meet a lot of different people, which is awesome. I don’t mind at all.”
Filppula, 34, signed a one-year, $2.75-million deal with the Islanders after spending the last two seasons with the Flyers. He was with the Red Wings for seven seasons before playing for the Lightning from 2013-17.
