Thomas Greiss spectacular in season opener as Islanders win on Josh Bailey's overtime goal

The easiest fix, of course, is great goaltending.

The Islanders spent much of their season opener Thursday night playing in their own end against the hard-pressing, youthful Hurricanes. But Thomas Greiss was spectacular in net, making 45 saves in a 2-1 overtime win before a sell-out crowd of 18,680 at PNC Arena.

Josh Bailey won it with a power-play one-timer off Mathew Barzal’s feed 43 seconds into overtime.
