BOSTON — The Islanders responded from their worst defensive performance of the season with their best, shutting down the Bruins, 4-0, Monday afternoon on two goals from Nikolay Kulemin and 32 saves from Thomas Greiss for his first shutout of the season.
Kulemin scored twice in a three-goal second period sandwiched around Josh Bailey’s bad-angle goal past Tuukka Rask, who was pulled after allowing three goals for the second time against the Islanders in less than a month.
Jason Chimera added a shorthanded goal in the third, his third goal in as many games. The Islanders played a much sharper game than they did on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina, where they allowed a season-high seven goals and Greiss was pulled with 6:07 to go.
