The first-place Islanders.
OK, OK, it’s just two games into November, way too early to put too much stock in the NHL standings.
Still, given that the Islanders have won just one playoff series since 1993, it’s certainly a positive start to this young season.
The Islanders beat the Devils, 3-0, on Saturday night at Barclays Center to leap-frog the Penguins into first place in the Metropolitan Division.
The Islanders (8-4-1) extended their winning streak to five games, all against divisional opponents, and conclude a three-game homestand on Monday night against the Canadiens. Their longest winning streak last season was four games and it’s the Islanders longest winning streak since they won their last six games of 2016-17.
