A coaching change can’t fix everything. And great goaltending can’t cure all.
The Islanders did their best to steal two points despite being thoroughly outplayed – riding another stellar effort from Thomas Greiss – but a two-goal lead was too little to protect and a season-high fourth straight win was too much to ask Sunday night at Barclays Center.
Despite Greiss’ 43 saves, the Islanders fell to the Flyers, 3-2, on Claude Giroux’s goal with 1:40 left in overtime.
Any momentum from three straight wins faded once the Islanders (19-17-9) took the ice, as Philadelphia dominated the opening minutes of play.
