The New York Islanders have traded defenseman Nick Leddy to the Detroit Red Wings for Richard Panik and a 2021 second-round pick. The pick originally belonged to the Edmonton Oilers – No. 52.
The Red Wings are retaining 50 percent of Panik’s contract – $1.375 million.
The 30-year old Leddy was drafted 16th overall in the first round of the 2009 draft by the Minnesota Wild. He carries a $5.5 million salary cap hit.
The 30-year old Panik was drafted 52nd overall in the second round of the 2009 draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has two years left on his deal.
