For the second time in the last 26 years, the New York Islanders will be playing in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Their opponents this time are the Carolina Hurricanes, the first wild card team from the Eastern Conference.
After sweeping the Pittsburgh Penguins in round one, the New York Islanders have sat and waited for their next opponent. Their ten-day wait was long, but it gave them time to heal up and hopefully practice their power play.
For the Hurricanes, they won’t have the luxury of rest. After a thrilling seven game series and a game seven that went to double-overtime, they’ll be back on the ice tomorrow night in Brooklyn for game one of the second round.
