This time last year, the New York Islanders brought in Valtteri Filppula and Leo Komarov to sure up the bottom six. It worked, as their bottom six was much better and they were able to provide timely offense.
Filppula was by far the best addition to the bottom six, putting up 31 points (17 goals, 14 assists) season in his first year with the Islanders. He was only on a one-year deal and elected to go back to where his career started in Detroit in order to finish his career.
That opens up a hole at the center position, which the Islanders don’t have much depth in after their top options on the NHL level.
