Brought in on a PTO, Luca Sbisa was a long-shot to make the New York Islanders 2018-19 roster. Until September 24th when Sbisa made it passed the second set of cuts and was then subsequently signed to a single year deal.
Going into the 2018-19 season, the New York Islanders only had six defensemen signed to a roster spot. NHL teams usually carry seven defensemen, we knew there would be competition for a spot going into camp and that one would eventually be named.
With ten days left to the starts of the NHL regular seasons, the Islanders have seemingly decided who will take that seventh defensemen spot by giving Luca Sbisa a single year contract.
