On September 9, forward Steve Bernier was given a PTO with the Islanders. After joining the Isles during last year’s season and scoring six points in 24 games, Bernier returns to provide additional forward depth.
Clearly, Bernier has fallen into favor with the Islanders, who always relish the opportunity to carry around veterans when they can. This makes it easier for New York who wants to keep him in the system but does not want to exhaust a roster spot.
Bernier was subsequently assigned to waivers today after signing. If he clears by tomorrow, he will join his longtime teammate Stephen Gionta who signed a 1-year deal with the Sound Tigers on October 12.
