When the New York Islanders were picking 11th in the 2018 NHL Draft they were jumping for joy when Oliver Wahlstrom somehow fell to them. Wahlstrom was considered the best scorer of that class, and he put that on display during his time in the USHL and USDP.
Unfortunately for Wahlstrom, his production dropped off slightly in the NCAA with Boston College and his stock fell to some extent. Someone who had the expectation to be ready for the NHL by 2019-2020 appeared to look like he needed more time.
In a 10 game sample size in the AHL, after his NCAA season, Wahlstrom was fantastic.
