With the 41st pick in the 2018 NHL draft, the New York Islanders selected Bode Wilde. Wilde, who many considered a first-round talent, was miraculously still on the board when the Isles had their first of two second-round picks.
The two-way right-handed defenseman played his hockey with the US National Team in 2017-2018. His 41 points in 61 USDP games gave him a first-round grade by most NHL scouts.
The Isles were ecstatic and pounced on Wilde when he was still available for the taking. After some controversy, Wilde decided to play in the OHL with the Saginaw Spirit.
