The New York Islanders of 2019-20 have a chance to asterisk their way into franchise history by matching, kind of, the legendary 1982 Islanders.
That team won 15 consecutive games back in the no-overtime/shootout era. Today’s team hasn’t won every game on this streak — and some of their wins were overtime/shootout-enabled — but they haven’t lost in regulation in 14 straight.
Their foe is the Pittsburgh Penguins, who ended their 10-game winning streak earlier during this run by storming back in the third period. Barry Trotz said that “won’t be a trend,” and it hasn’t been in the other games since.
