Reporting from the General Managers meetings in Las Vegas, TSN's Bob McKenzie tweeted that 3-on-3 overtime and coaches' challenges for goalie interference are ready to go before the NHL's Board of Governors for approval.
The three-man OT will be the only one teams take part in, pending ratification. The NHLPA wasn't interested in going from 4-on-4 to 3-on-3 as the AHL did last year. The shootout remains, if only to torture and befuddle the haters for another few years.
Here are McKenzie's missives on the new overtime:
Pending B of G approval, NHL will go to 3-on-3 overtime for 5 minutes in regular season games next season.
