Lou Lamoriello was asked about his famously secretive ways before training camp opened. Essentially, the Islanders president and general manager, who has been at the helm of an NHL franchise since 1987, said he liked keeping all options available as long as possible.
That certainly seems to be the case in advance of Monday’s 5 p.m. deadline for submitting the team’s initial, 23-player maximum roster to the NHL. Somewhat surprisingly, no Islanders were among the 43 players placed on waivers league-wide on Sunday, a necessary step for many who are about to be re-assigned to the AHL. But that could just signal an imminent flurry of other transactions.
