Josh Bailey is Islanders’ nominee for Masterson Trophy

OTTAWA — Josh Bailey is the Islanders’ nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy as voted upon by the team’s chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.

The Masterton Trophy has been awarded annually since 1968 to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to ice hockey.

Bailey, 28, is the longest-tenured Islanders and has set career highs this season with 18 goals, 51 assists and 69 points. Bailey agreed to a six-year, $30 million extension on Feb. 23 rather than test the market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.
