John Tavares scores two goals to lead Islanders past Sharks

SAN JOSE, Calif. — John Tavares scored twice, including 36 seconds into the game, and the New York Islanders hung on to beat the Sharks 4-2 Tuesday night.

Mikhail Grabovski and Johnny Boychuk also scored as the Islanders won in regulation for the second time since starting 6-2-1 this season.

Thomas Greiss, facing the team that drafted him for the first time, made 34 saves, and the Islanders swept the season series by winning in regulation at San Jose for the first time since February 2003.

Joel Ward and Brent Burns scored for the Sharks, who fell to 3-8 after opening the season with four straight wins.
