MONTREAL — John Tavares hasn’t made any decisions on his future, but he stated clearly on Monday morning where his preference lies.
“I hope to stay in Long Island,” Tavares told a group of reporters questioning him on his plans. “There’s a lot of positive things going forward with the organization and the team here. I haven’t thought about being anywhere else but with the Islanders.”
Tavares is playing out the final year of his current six-year, $33-million deal and would be the biggest free agent to ever hit the market if he goes to July 1 without re-signing.
