The NHL’s Department of (Occasional) Player Safety has fined Boston Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk for his crosscheck to the back of New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield’s head in Game 2 of their second-round series.
The incident, which took place during a battle in front of the net, went unpenalized during the game. NBC broadcaster Pierre McGuire noted it during play, and said Mayfield did not look right afterward — he stayed down and appeared dazed as play went on and the Bruins continued the offensive zone pressure.
McGuire also called it “old school hockey” upon replay.
