The voicemail is saved on Jack Capuano’s phone, there for him to listen to anytime he feels a ping of longing, a touch of homesickness.
The Islanders coach can’t just pick up and dial his 21-year-old son Anthony anytime he wants. The reason why is explained in the voicemail, left last spring by a Maine senator, telling the Capuano family that their son had been granted a congressional nomination for an appointment at the Naval Academy.
“It’s something he’s always wanted to do, protect the country,” Capuano told The Post in a quiet moment during practice this past week.
