Defenseman Scott Mayfield along with Islanders captain Anders Lee participated in Monday’s NHL Players’ Association executive board teleconference in which executive director Don Fehr faced questions from membership over the union’s inaction in 2010 after allegations made by Chicago player Kyle Beach that he had been sexually assaulted by the team’s then-video coach.
Tuesday, Mayfield said the NHLPA is trying to figure out if "there is a hole in the system."
Fehr recommended an investigation by outside legal counsel to review the NHLPA’s response and Mayfield indicated that motion was approved after an executive board vote on Monday.
