Well, in a lot of ways, the New York Islanders were lucky to tie last night’s game. The Boston Bruins really controlled the third period when the Islanders needed a push.
Mathew Barzal willed the game into overtime, where the Islanders finally started to get some consistent offensive zone pressure—which makes it all the more unfortunate that Brad Marchand’s low-percentage shot found the back of the net. As Dom said in the recap, Jean-Gabriel Pageau backed off Marchand a little bit knowing that Marchand had little-to-no angle to shoot. Pageau did his job on that play.
