The Maple Leafs stole John Tavares, but the Islanders are getting one fan favorite back.
Matt Martin is returning to Long Island, as the Islanders traded for the physical winger Tuesday in exchange for minor league goalie Eamon McAdam.
After the Islanders originally drafted him in 2008, Martin played seven seasons on the Island, recording 42 goals, 46 assists and 2,023 hits in 438 games. In 2016 he became a free agent and signed with Toronto, where he tallied eight goals, 13 assists and 447 hits over the past two years.
Martin still has two years left on the four-year, $10 million deal current Isles general manager Lou Lamoriello signed him to with the Maple Leafs.
