The New York Rangers and New York Islanders just don't trade. The last time they completed a trade was in 2010. Like Matt O'Leary stated that needs to change.
If it were up to Lou Lamoriello it would. It seems that the Islanders GM has a serious interest in adding winger Chris Kreider in the trade deadline. He knows there's a trade barrier between both New York teams and he clearly just doesn't care.
Kreider would be a good addition to the roster for sure, but you have to think that the likelihood of Kreider being traded to the Isles is low.
