VANCOUVER — Robin Lehner capped his brilliant first season with the Islanders — the goalie is hoping it’s not his only season with the team — by being named the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy winner for perseverance and dedication at the NHL Awards Show on Wednesday night at Las Vegas.
Lehner also is a finalist for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goalie.
Lehner, an impending unrestricted free agent after joining the Islanders on a one-year, $1.5-million deal, went 25-13-5 with a 2.13 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage and started all eight playoff games as the Islanders swept the Penguins in the first round and then were swept by the Hurricanes.
