This took me a while to get to. Ranking the eight New York Islanders draft classes in the 1970s was going to be different than the other decades. From 1972 through 1979 GM Billy Torrey and his scouting staff drafted the pieces that would turn the Isles from an expansion team and into an NHL powerhouse.
Just about every draft class was loaded with multiple Stanley Cup champions and with hundreds of games played. In my previous rankings, I simply looked at the number of games played for the Islanders to differentiate between a bad and a good draft class.
