CALGARY, Alberta -- Josh Bailey scored with 17.8 seconds remaining in overtime Thursday to give the New York Islanders a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames.
The left winger beat Calgary's Joni Ortio with a high shot over the goalie's glove to give the Islanders (33-19-7) their third consecutive win. Calgary (26-30-4) has lost three straight.
New York goalie Jaroslav Halak made 31 saves in the win. Ortio finished with 32 saves.
The Islanders, in third place in the Metropolitan Division, closed the gap on the second-place New York Rangers to one point.
Defenseman Thomas Hickey scored his first goal in 37 games for the Islanders.
