Islanders Prospect Triumphs In Swedish Playoffs

Selected by the Islanders in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL draft, Swedish-born Linus Soderstrom has been steadily increasing his pedigree.

Goalies aren’t generally taken in the first round unless they’re some sort of prodigy or you’re Mike Milbury. A fourth round pick on a goalie who was averaging a 2.61 GAA and .912 SV% for a Swedish under 18 team, seems reasonable. But this season Soderstrom has been remarkable for his club HV71.

In 22 regular season games, Soderstrom had a 1.34 GAA and .943 SV%. Besting the previous goals against average record held by none other than Henrik Lundqvist at 1.
