The Islanders will put PA Parenteau on waivers on Monday, according to a source.
The 33-year-old Parenteau signed a one-year, $1.25-million contract in July to return to the Isles after posting 20 goals and 21 assists for the Leafs last season. Parenteau had 120 points in two seasons (2010-11 and 2011-12) playing alongside John Tavares. The Islanders hoped Parenteau’s return would provide Tavares with a familiar, reliable wing.
Because of the World Cup of Hockey, Tavares only played one preseason game, Sunday night in Washington. He had Parenteau and Andrew Ladd as his wingers in a 4-0 loss.
