In not surprising but somewhat illuminating news, the Islanders announced that RFA forward Simon Holmstrom has re-signed on a cheap one-year deal, something that’s less than his qualifying offer but guarantees he’ll make an NHL wage even if he’s stashed in AHL Bridgeport next season.
You figure he’ll be on the NHL roster, reprising his bottom six role and maybe some more shorthanded magic, but you never know. Security is a nice thing to have as you seek your seven-year contract.
The deal maybe keeps the Isles under the cap, albeit only accounting for 22 (instead of the usual 23) players.
