Islanders News: Mezhdurechensk Mule

The pride of Mezhdurechensk, Ilya Sorokin is signed.

He can’t play, and he might not even be over for summer camp, and he’s not even signed for next season (when he can play), yet this is all somehow good news. Because 2020 is like that.

After waiting all summer for clearance on players in Sorokin’s position, the Islanders had a narrow window to get something done and they made it. The max-salary (on paper only) ELC for Sorokin at age 24 means he’s eligible for a handsome qualifying offer and RFA deal to coax him over for 2020-21, whenever that season begins.
