The New York Islanders defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime to win another road preseason game, moving to 2-0-0. Anthony Beauvillier, skating next to Kyle Palmieri and Aatu Räty, notched the game-winner.
But the results don’t really matter in the preseason, even if it feels good to beat the Flyers. It’s what the coaching staff sees from the players, especially the prospects and fringe players—in other words, which guys might crack the roster.
For the Islanders, whose roster is mostly set, it’s about seeing which guys deserve the first call-up should injuries arise.
