Islanders’ late rally falls short in 6-4 loss to Flyers

PHILADELPHIA — The Islanders’ free fall continued here Thursday. Much like the snowy, windy mess outside the arena, the Isles’ hopes of reversing their recent trend blew away in an ugly second period on their way to a 6-4 loss to the Flyers.

The Isles rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the third period and pulled within a goal on John Tavares’ 22nd at 6:02 and Ryan Pulock’s third at 14:35. There was also the rare sight of Josh Bailey dropping the gloves with Sean Couturier after Couturier threw a big hit on Anders Lee, one of three fights in the game.
