Nothing last forever. The Islanders, who prior to last night’s game had a ten game point streak courtesy of a recent 8-0-2 stretch, lost their first game in regulation since November 22nd at the hands of the Florida Panthers.
The numbers do not entirely do the game justice. Although New York had outshot its opponent 34-16 and completely dominated the first period of play, they were beaten rather badly in a 5-1 contest. Jaroslav Halak was simply not at the top of his game (blame it on the black jerseys, obviously), and that put a damper on hopes of extending the point streak in any capacity.
