The Islanders were trying to sit back and bleed the clock, and what they did was bleed themselves of any momentum — and watch as a win they should have had was frittered away.

Holding a 2-1 lead late into the third period, the Islanders suffered a bad, 3-2 overtime loss to the Hurricanes on Thursday night at Barclays Center. Ron Hainsey got the game-winner on a little backhand during the 3-on-3 extra frame, and the Isles slunk off seeing a big point disappear.
