Islanders’ Hamonic Reveals He Suffered Left Knee MCL Tear Prior To Playoffs

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — New York Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic says he sustained a torn left knee ligament that forced him to miss the team’s first-round playoff series against Washington.

Hamonic revealed the nature of the injury while cleaning out his locker on Tuesday, a day after the Islanders were eliminated in a 2-1 loss in Game 7. The injury did not require surgery and he said he might have been able to return at some point in the second round had the Isles not lost Monday.

“I was feeling good and the knee was coming a long way ahead of schedule,” Hamonic said.
