The Penguins are preparing to make a run to try and three-peat as Stanley Cup champions. The Islanders, though technically not mathematically eliminated from postseason contention, are going through auditions for next season.
“You’ll probably see some guys go in and out, certainly some guys are pushing the envelope to get back into the lineup from injuries,” Islanders coach Doug Weight said. “This is always, for lack of a better term, an audition in how we want to play for old, young. Everybody.”
The Islanders face the Penguins on Tuesday night at Barclays Center, continuing a five-game homestand that opened with Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
