Coming off of last season it was clear the Islanders were a different team. Last season they were the NHL leader in goals against per game. They finished last season only giving up 2.33 goals.
What felt like the Islanders' biggest issue was goal scoring. Last year they only scored 2.72 goals, which was 22nd in the league. Barry Trotz's system worked wonders and they were able to move on to the second round of the playoffs with their great goals-against average.
