PHILADELPHIA — The Islanders certainly understand one of the key factors to becoming a strong playoff contender is getting consistent offensive production from their defensemen.
So, consider Saturday’s 6-1 win over the reeling Flyers at Wells Fargo Center a decent start down that path.
Adam Pelech had a goal and an assist, his defense partner Johnny Boychuk added an assist and the six defensemen combined for nine of the Islanders’ 22 shots.
“Points from defensemen are generally a big indicator for successful teams and that’s something that definitely we’re looking to add into our game a bit more,” said Pelech, who notched his first points of the season.
