TORONTO — John Tavares wouldn’t know.
He wouldn’t know whether his fans back home on the Island, in Brooklyn and across the metropolitan area had divided loyalties when the Islanders’ captain took the ice here Tuesday night for Canada against Team USA in a World Cup elimination game for the Yanks.
“I try and avoid all social media and just go about my business, so I really don’t know how the fans are feeling about this,” Tavares said following Canada’s morning prep. “Our Islander fans are very passionate and loyal, but they’re also very proud of where they’re from, so I’m sure they’re going to be cheering for America.
