The Islanders re-signed 33 year old depth forward Stephen Gionta on a two-way contract this week. Gionta earned another year in New York, worth $650,000 for time spent in the NHL, or $250,000 at the AHL level.
Gionta played 26 games in orange and blue last year. During that time the 5-7, 175 lb. forward showed the management his value by playing with an unrelenting work ethic. Earning Gionta a $50,000 NHL raise and another $25,000 in the AHL.
Unlike older brother Brian, Stephen has never been a super-star level scorer, so he took a longer, slower road to the show.
