Losing 10 games in a row is something that no team wants to do. Well, the New York Islanders handed the Detroit Red Wings their 10th straight loss while improving to 18-5-2 on the season holding tight to that second-place spot in the Metropolitan.
The first period started about as good as it possibly could for the Islanders. They got an early power play, and while they didn't score they had a number of great chances. The momentum was clearly on the Islanders' side.
At the 8:46 mark of the period, Anders Lee scored his second goal in as many games giving the Islanders an early lead.
