Islanders could be without key defenseman Travis Hamonic

With Travis Hamonic not on the ice again Tuesday, the postseason status of the Islanders’ shutdown defenseman is very much in doubt thanks to a lower-body injury.

“It’s undisclosed and there’s no timetable,” Islanders head coach Jack Capuano said after practice at Nassau Coliseum. “When there is, I’ll let you know.”

That’s hardly good news for the player who would be tasked with matching up with Washington’s Alex Ovechkin.

Capuano insisted no lineup decisions had been made, but Calvin de Haan filled in for Hamonic in the regular-season finale Saturday and practiced Tuesday.

“Going into Game 1, we don’t know who’s gonna play yet,” said Capuano, who did not say if Hamonic would travel with the team.
