WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Devon Toews hardly has the biggest shot on the team, but maybe the young defenseman’s ability to get his shot through to the net is part of the Islanders trying to simplify their putrid power play.
At least, that’s a theory.
“He doesn’t have an overpowering shot,” coach Barry Trotz said on Wednesday, “but he gets it on net, and that’s half the battle for defensemen — get pucks through quick.”
For the past nine games, Toews has been on the top unit, having replaced Nick Leddy. He was joined by Jordan Eberle, Anders Lee, Brock Nelson and Mat Barzal.
