The goalie on the last Islanders team to win a playoff series is happy that, well, he no longer can be referred to in those terms anymore.
Prior to the Islanders’ first-round series clincher in Brooklyn Sunday night, nearly 23 years had passed since the last time this franchise enjoyed a taste of postseason success. Glenn Healy was their goalie back in 1993, when the Islanders surprisingly made it to the conference finals. He’s pleased that dubious streak is over.
“Oh totally yeah,” Healy said by phone on Monday. “You know what? That was too long. Too long.
