Mathew Barzal certainly played like an All-Star on Thursday night.
A day after the Islanders 21-year-old center was named to his first NHL All-Star Game, he scored twice and extended his point streak to six games in a 3-2 overtime win over the Blackhawks at NYCB Live’s Nassau Coliseum before a crowd of 13,454, which was just shy of a fourth straight sell-out at the venerable barn.
Rookie defenseman Devon Toews, with his first NHL goal, won it at 1:48 of the extra period.
“The last two years I’ve been here, this is the most confident I’ve felt,” said Barzal, who has eight goals and three assists in his point streak and has scored seven of the Islanders’ last 13 goals.
