For the second consecutive game, the Islanders lost a key defenseman after a late hit by a Capital.
Things may have gone from bad to worse for the New York Islanders in the third period of Game 5, with the Washington Capitals running away with the score and taking out another Islanders defenseman.
After the Capitals scored early to create a 3-1 lead, Calvin de Haan left the game with an apparent upper body injury from a late hit by Troy Brouwer 3:55 into the period. Brouwer caught de Haan after he had passed the puck -- with enough time for his partner Thomas Hickey to skate by between the pass and the hit by Brouwer:
